Argentina On View: Virtual Entrance
Door to the country
Buenos Aires, April 2000. The main objective of ArgentinaOnView.com
is to become the virtual entrance door to the country. "Our
aim is to contribute to the country positioning among the
most visited places by international tourism in the whole
American Continent; and at the same time, to become the
starting point for the cyber-tourists who need information
about Argentina", says Rubén A. Baez (1), CEO of Argentina
On View.
According to a study carried out by the World Tourism Organization,
about the tendencies of global tourism, Argentina occupies
a highlighted place in South America, overcoming even to
Brazil. "But it is still far from Mexico and USA", says
Baez. Argentina On View will strengthen that flow,
even replacing with its own information the lack of data,
that certain places inside the country have, mainly due
to the absence of tourist infrastructure according to the

The Portal is constituted by a Home Page, where you can
see the provinces' names and a map with its geographical
areas. There will be a place for the novelties about the
companies that are connected with the tourism area, such
as: airlines, terrestrial means of transport, travel agencies,
hotels, restaurants, thematic parks, and ecological organizations
too. Of course there will be banners for those companies
that want an outstanding presence in Argentina On View
Portal.
The portal, in connection with information for the cyber-tourist,
will be integrated by 2 parts. One of them will fulfill
the function of searching engine of web sites and regional
and provincial portals of Argentina. That is to say, Argentina
On View, up to a certain extent, will be a portal of
portals. The other one, will be constituted by very complete
information about the provinces and the Argentinean regions.
This last historical, geographical, cultural and tourist
information will be accompanied by a photo gallery.
At first, Argentina On View will start up with General
data about the country, Buenos Aires City and the Patagonian
Provinces. Later on, they will incorporate one province
a week.
Baez says, "It doesn't mind to be merely a site through
which you can make reservations or buy tickets or trips
only. The concept of portal is wider. A tourist portal not
only has to include strictly tourist information, but also
general information about the places shown in it. The virtual
tourist must have the possibility to discover something
else in the web, when he is planning, perhaps, his vacations.
Or maybe, there is somebody interested in investigating
the country and carrying out a cyber-search in Argentina
On View to delight himself with the visualization of
tourist places, knowing at the same time about the universities,
museums, shows, bibliography, typical foods, government,
statistical, business, stock exchange shares, etc."
